Applications for 2026 DAM Crew Due May 15

The Dam Analysis Monitoring (DAM) Crew is a two-week river monitoring and restoration workshop experience through the UW-River Falls. It takes place July 20-31. Positions are open to rising sophomores, juniors and seniors. Students from any Universities of Wisconsin school are encouraged to apply. Participation is free, and funds are available for food and travel expenses. Apply by May 15.

The Kinnickinnic River (Kinni) is an Outstanding Resource Water and a Class I trout stream in western Wisconsin. Past fishery surveys have recorded trout densities of up to 5,000 fish/mile. The Kinni encounters two run-of-the-river dams in the city of River Falls which are slated for removal. Trout Unlimited and the consulting firm Inter-Fluve developed an extensive 10-year plan for monitoring ecological changes in the river in response to dam removal and river restoration.

DAM Crew participants will learn from professionals involved in dam removal and river restoration and monitoring, and will assist with monitoring plan implementation. All participants will also have the chance to attend a water-focused, regional scientific conference in the year following their participation in DAM Crew.
